Planning Meeting in Szentendre

The first group of participants for the Hungarian
Bible camps left the US today. They will arrive in
Budapest tomorrow morning. The churches here are
excited and ready for the camps begin. We have seven
camps this first week with 37 participants.
This picture is from the church camp staff from
Szentendre. The picture was taken at the “Off-line
Center”, which is a facility in the city park,
operated and supported jointly by the church and
Youth for Christ Hungary. The church staff met today
to finalize their plans for both of their camps.
This week their camp will be held in a school and a
team from First Baptist McKinney will be coming.
Next week, the smaller camp will be held at the
“Off-line Center” in the park. The team there will
be from First Baptist Amarillo.
We always anticipate seeing what God will do in each
of our camps, and, as always, we are excited to hear
about salvation decisions, baptisms and church
growth that has come from the previous years. I
heard today from the church in Szentendre that a
school custodian, who had worked at the camps in
previous years, came to the church with his family
because he was impressed with what he saw the church
doing for the community through the English Bible
camps. Earlier this year, he and his wife decided to
follow Christ and were baptized.
The weather is perfect with the temperatures in the
70s. Over half of our participants are new to the
camps this year, and I always love introducing them
to Budapest and the people of Hungary. This is our
sixth year of doing the English Bible camps. Once
again, thanks to the High Plains Christian Ministry,
we are able to give away over 1,000 Hungarian Bibles
to the students and others working at the camps.
The journalism department from Baylor University is
in Hungary this month and they will be bringing
writing and photography students to the camp in
Szentendre to interview camp workers, the Hungarian
Baptist Union representative, and me about the
camps. Hopefully, news about our camps will be
publicized in various Baptist publications this
summer, as we anticipate more US churches joining us
next summer. It’s never too early to start thinking
about what you and your church can do next summer in
Hungary.
