Five of our Week 1 teams gave reports on
Saturday night. Two teams went on to another
week of camp, including Ruth, who had the fall
and “closed surgery” last weekend. We had 429
students in seven camps.
From the team in
Miskolc::
Our week went so
quickly— it’s hard to believe we’ve completed
our camp in Miskolc. We led our student
detectives through an investigation about Jesus,
with questions such as “Is the Bible
trustworthy?,” “Was Jesus more than just a good
man?,” and “Did it (the crucifixion) really
happen?” We talked about why people don’t
believe in Jesus and encouraged the kids to ask
their own questions. The time sped by, but each
day we sang and talked about God’s love. A
favorite song/rap combined John 3:16 with the
ABCs of salvation — Admit, Believe, Confess —
and we pray God will continue to grow His
message in their hearts.
We were invited to share our songs with the
parents and teachers at the Friday afternoon
program and introducing each song was a perfect
way to share God’s love, the reality of Jesus
and the plan of salvation with those adults.
From the team in
Nagyvarsany:
The pastor of the
small church was so discouraged because the
translator he had counted on had to cancel at
the last minute, but God provided. Another girl,
a former church member who lives away, was
visiting her mother and agreed to translate. She
had such a great time, she wants to come again
next year.
God also provided us protection from a near
collision when the car in front of us lost
control in the rain and rolled over into the
ditch right before we came upon it.
“A nine-year-old girl told us that she wanted to
be baptized.”
From the team in Teglas:
“One of the moms
came to me to say thank you for teaching her son
about Jesus. He was so excited to tell her about
all the things Jesus had done and how much he
loves us. He used his Bible to tell his mom the
lessons for each week. That’s why we do this!”
“The students were so excited to open their
Bibles. They poured over the pictures, talking
about what was happening in each story.”
“I had one student I personally prayed with to
receive Christ.”
From
Szigetszentmiklos:
One team member
observed how the kids helped a handicapped boy
score points during the recreation time.
The church took a gas stove and some food to a
single mother and shared the gospel with her.
“On the last night, we washed the feet of all
the workers there at the church. The love that
went around that room was overflowing. They were
crying because no one had ever done anything
like that for them. We were crying because they
turned around and washed ours!”
From Szentendre:
Many people talked about how attentive the
children were to listen to the Bible stories.
They paid close attention and read the story in
their own Bible. “There was a little girl in our
class that told us she didn’t have a Bible. She
was so excited to go home and share the word
with her family.”
“I was talking to a student’s mom whose daughter
accepted Christ that day. The mother said her
daughter told her about her decision and the
next step to take according to her ‘salvation
bracelet.’” It made me very happy to know that
the gospel was not lost in translation!
The week 2 teams (7 camps) have been with their
host churches today (Sunday) and begin their
camps tomorrow.
